Baseball Game Preview: Progreso Red Ants vs. Raymondville Bearkats

Progreso is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will host the Raymondville Bearkats at 7:30 p.m. Progreso is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.

While Progreso's win against Monte Alto wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Progreso had just enough and edged out Monte Alto 11-10 last Saturday.

Progreso got a massive performance out of Isael Trevino, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Ismael Estrada, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4.

Progreso was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Raymondville came up short against Harlingen on Saturday and fell 8-3.

Raymondville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noel Reta, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Reta is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

Progreso pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Raymondville, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.

Progreso came out on top in a nail-biter against Raymondville in their previous matchup back in April of 2019, sneaking past 7-6. Does Progreso have another victory up their sleeve, or will Raymondville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
