Newman Smith came up short against Highland Park on Tuesday, falling 3-0.
While Newman Smith was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Highland Park's winning margin in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-10, 25-18, 25-22.
Meanwhile, Creekview hadn't done well against The Colony recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 3-0 win. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
The win didn't come easy: The Colony scored at least 21 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-21, 25-22.
Newman Smith better keep an eye on Priyanka Thomas. She was instrumental in Creekview's win, getting three digs and three aces. What's more, Thomas racked up 14 assists, the most she's had over her last seven matchups. Ilania Rodriguez also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.
Creekview was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. They are 2-1 when they serve at least ten aces.
Newman Smith's loss dropped their record down to 7-25. As for Creekview, their record is now 11-25.
Newman Smith might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Creekview in their previous meeting back in September. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
