Preview: Concord Spiders vs. West Rowan Falcons
The Concord Spiders will be home for the holidays to greet the West Rowan Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Concord will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
Last Saturday, Concord came up short against Mooresville and fell 58-46. While losing is never fun, Concord can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while Mooresville is ranked 105th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jaden Reid, who scored seven points along with 14 rebounds. Those 14 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Howard, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds.
West Rowan aren't just finding sucess at home, as their game on Friday extended their overall winning streak to three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Carson and snuck past 63-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Will Givens continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points. The matchup was his sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Holmes, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds.
Concord's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for West Rowan, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Everything came up roses for Concord against West Rowan in their previous meeting back in February as the team secured a 60-25 victory. Will Concord repeat their success, or does West Rowan have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
