Preview: Kutztown Cougars vs. Antietam Mountaineers
Kutztown is 1-9 against Antietam since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Kutztown Cougars will look to defend their home court against the Antietam Mountaineers at 7:30 p.m. Antietam took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Kutztown, who comes in off a win.
Kutztown had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They skirted past Brandywine Heights Area 52-50. The victory was just what Kutztown needed coming off of a 71-50 loss in their prior match.
Meanwhile, Antietam came up short against Fleetwood on Tuesday and fell 55-46. While losing is never fun, Antietam can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 490th, while Fleetwood is ranked 176th).
Despite the loss, Antietam got a solid performance out of Julious Williams, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. AJ Schiefly was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Kutztown's win ended a 11-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-10. As for Antietam, they now have a losing record at 8-9.
Things could have been worse for Kutztown, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 72-55 loss to Antietam in their previous meeting back in December of 2023.
