Baseball Recap: Schlarman's Losing Streak Snapped at Seven Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Westville, Schlarman was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Cissna Park Timberwolves as they made off with a 10-4 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Hilltoppers as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Marc Villaester made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Miles Crosby, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Schlarman's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-10 when he doesn't). Liam Billings was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles.

Schlarman lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Schlarman's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Cissna Park, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-16 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Schlarman will square off against Martinsville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bluestreaks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.17 runs per game on average), something the Hilltoppers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cissna Park, they will head out to challenge Watseka at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
