Basketball Recap: Westland Comes Up Short

Westland lost against Westerville North back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Westland Cougars took a blow against the Westerville North Warriors, falling 100-56. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 378th, while the Warriors are ranked third).

Westland's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Austin Jones, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 15 points. The dominant performance also gave Jones a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Breaker Heller Jr., who posted 11 points and six assists.

Westland has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Westerville North, their win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2.

Westland has already played their next game, a 73-72 defeat against Westerville South on the 7th. As for Westerville North, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 72-64 victory against Big Walnut on the 7th.
