Baseball Recap: Melrose-Mindoro Continues Home Dominance on Friday

There's no place like home for Melrose-Mindoro, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Alma Center Lincoln Hornets on Friday. The Mustangs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Hornets, too.

Jacob Thesing spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Colton Koss was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Lane Fry also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Melrose-Mindoro's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Alma Center Lincoln, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Looking ahead, Melrose-Mindoro will head out to square off against Pepin/Alma at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Alma Center Lincoln, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Greenwood at 5:00 p.m. The Hornets are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
