Softball Recap: Burnsville Comes Up Short

Burnsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Shakopee Sabers. On the bright side, the four- run effort marked the Blaze's highest-scoring game to date.

Brooke Gerber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits.

At the plate, Sid Handrahan made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those RBI were her first of the season. Kate Dam was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Burnsville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Shakopee, the win snapped their losing streak at ten games and leaves them with a 3-11 record.

Looking ahead, Burnsville will challenge Apple Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Blaze will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups. As for Shakopee, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Chaska at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
