Basketball Recap: Phelps Comes Up Short

Phelps was the 67-63 winner over Belfry when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Phelps Hornets fell 78-69 to the Belfry Pirates on Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Phelps still got an impressive performance from Toby Adese, who went 10 of 18 on his way to 27 points. The dominant performance also gave Adese a new career-high in field goal percentage (56%). Jahmar Stewart was another key player, going 6 for 12 to rack up 14 points and five rebounds.

It was another big night for Jaxon Estridge, who went 12 of 20 en route to 34 points and five boards for Belfry. Belfry is undefeated when Estridge posts 25 or more points, but 4-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carter Jude, who posted 13 points and five rebounds.

Phelps has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season. As for Belfry, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 8-13.

Phelps didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 85-67 victory against Mingo Central on the 5th. As for Belfry, they have also already played their next contest, a 75-57 loss against Calvary Baptist Academy on the 6th.
