Softball Game Preview: Benson Bobcats vs. St. Augustine Catholic Wolves

Benson is a perfect 4-0 against St. Augustine Catholic since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Bobcats will head out to square off against the Wolves at 4:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

On Tuesday, Benson didn't have quite enough to beat Santa Cruz Valley and fell 8-7. The Bobcats haven't had much luck with the Dust Devils recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Claire Parke spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Millie Kellogg made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Sierra Olson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, St. Augustine Catholic fell victim to Desert Christian and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 15-0 to the Eagles. Having soared to a lofty 29 runs in the game before, the Wolves' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

St. Augustine Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Benson, they now have a losing record of 11-12.

Benson took their victory against St. Augustine Catholic in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 19-7 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
