Softball Recap: Shelley Makes It Three in a Row on the Road

Shelley hadn't done well against Hillcrest recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Russets walked away with a 12-7 victory over the Knights. This was a revenge game for the Russets: when they faced off against the Knights last Monday, they had to take a 28-25 loss.

The team relied heavily on Carlie Hurd, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Maddy Murdoch also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Hurd wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Shelley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive contests.

Shelley pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Hillcrest, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shelley will take on Preston at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Russets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season. As for Hillcrest, they will square off against Highland at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
