Softball Recap: Greensburg Salem's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Greensburg Salem dropped their record down to 9-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Knoch Knights, falling 11-1. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Golden Lions, who until this contest were averaging 2.64 runs allowed.

Greensburg Salem saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alle Scarpa, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Knoch, the win (which was their 15th in a row) raised their record to 16-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.3 runs.

On Knoch's side, Kaila Purcell spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. Purcell has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, McKenna Brailey and Lindsey Wise did most of the damage at the plate: Brailey got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Wise went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three runs gave Brailey a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lizzie Danik, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Greensburg Salem is taking a road trip to square off against Derry at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Knoch, they will be playing at home against Burrell at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Knights 1, the Bucs 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
