Softball Game Preview: Strathmore Spartans vs. Exeter Monarchs

The Strathmore Spartans will take on the Exeter Monarchs in a tournament on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Strathmore 3.3, Exeter 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Strathmore made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Lindsay, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Spartans never let the Cardinals get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Thursday. Considering the Spartans have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Strathmore got a massive performance out of Avery Behrens, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Behrens a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Mollie Gillis, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Exeter didn't have quite enough to beat Immanuel on Friday and fell 4-2. The loss continues a trend for the Monarchs in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost seven in a row.

Strathmore is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Exeter, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
