Softball Recap: Midway Raiders vs. Harnett Central Trojans

It was a good run, but Midway unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Harnett Central Trojans by a score of 8-6. Midway was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Harnett Central apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2019.

Eva McLamb and Kiley Ives did some serious damage despite the final result: McLamb scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-4, while Ives scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. McLamb hasn't dropped below three stolen bases for three straight games. Another player making a difference was McKenzie Williams, who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and an RBI.

Even though they lost, Midway didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with seven strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Harnett Central didn't tossed any.

On Harnett Central's side, Charleigh Jarriel made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits over five innings pitched. Jarriel was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Lauren Faulkner was incredible, going 1-for-2 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI. Sondra Berry was another key contributor, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double.

Midway's loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-3. As for Harnett Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Midway will be playing in front of their home fans against Red Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Red Springs is coming into the match with five straight defeats on the road, meaning Midway will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. As for Harnett Central, they will square off against Triton at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Triton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.2 runs per game this season.
