Soccer Game Preview: James F. Byrnes vs. Eastside

The James F. Byrnes Rebels will head out to square off against the Eastside Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.

On Thursday, James F. Byrnes came up short against Spartanburg and fell 3-1. The Rebels have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

While Eastside didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They never let Gaffney get on the board and left with a 4-0 win last Monday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Indians are ranked 133rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Eastside hit Gaffney with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Ryder Martin (2), Asher Wilson, and Christos Fotinos.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Eastside, bringing their record for this year to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 12 goals over those four matches. As for James F. Byrnes, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3-1.

James F. Byrnes suffered a grim 5-1 defeat to Eastside when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can James F. Byrnes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
