Preview: Benjamin Mustangs vs. Klondike Cougars
The Benjamin Mustangs will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against the Klondike Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on December 2nd. Benjamin knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 matchups -- so hopefully Klondike likes a good challenge.
With a playoff game on the line, Benjamin rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the Jaybirds, posting a 85-40 win on the road. Fans of Benjamin have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Benjamin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Grayson Rigdon led the charge by rushing for 278 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 13.9 yards per carry, and also throwing for 218 yards and three touchdowns while completing 90.9% of his passes. Keegan Hayes and his 126 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Benjamin's win.
Meanwhile, Klondike faced Balmorhea in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Klondike claimed a resounding 100-62 victory over Balmorhea at home. The victory was nothing new for Klondike as they're now sitting on ten straight.
Klondike got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jared Quintanilla out in front who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 171 yards and three touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Creed Warren, who rushed for 84 yards and four touchdowns.
The wins kept both teams' perfect 13-0 season records intact.
