Cole Cook leads a balanced attack to beat Grand County

Recap: North Sanpete Hawks vs. Grand County Red Devils

The North Sanpete Hawks scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They managed a 78-72 win over Grand County. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

North Sanpete's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cole Cook led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was McKay Schlappi, who scored 15 points along with four steals.

Grand County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lane Berry, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds. Wyatt Toney was another key contributor, scoring 21 points.

Even though they lost, Grand County were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Sanpete only racked up 18 assists.

North Sanpete pushed their record up to 5-4 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Grand County, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

North Sanpete will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Providence Hall at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Providence Hall is ranked 87th, while North Sanpete is ranked 89th). As for Grand County, they will be playing at home against Union at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
