Volleyball Recap: Frederick Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Ava Reed and Lily Pagel + How To Watch

After flying high against Skyline last Thursday, Frederick came back down to earth. The Golden Eagles took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Broomfield Eagles on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Golden Eagles of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

While Frederick ultimately came up short, they really made Broomfield work, particularly in the fourth set. The final score came out to 25-19, 15-25, 25-16, 26-24.

Frederick's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Lily Pagel, who had 13 digs and one assist, and Ava Reed, who had ten kills, four digs, three aces, and two blocks. Reed has been hot for a while, having posted seven or more kills the last nine times she's played. Kyla Vejrostek also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

Broomfield can attribute much of their success to Sophia Koza, who had 19 digs. Those 19 digs gave Koza a new career-high.

Frederick has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. As for Broomfield, their victory bumped their record up to 3-8.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Frederick is set to challenge their familiar foe Centaurus at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Broomfield will square off against rival Monarch at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
