League recap: Barry throws longest pass in league this season for Athens

Fans got a thrill when Aaron Barry and Cody Cain connected against Troy. The connection was good for 74 yards, the longest such play in Northern Tier 1 this season.

Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Wellsboro beat Columbia Montour Vo-Tech 48-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Hornets.

Jed Wright was a passing and rushing force as the Trojans defeated Athens. He completed 4 passes for 147 yards and 3 touchdowns and also ran for 104 yards. Wright's key target this week was Ryan Reeves, who caught 2 passes for 78 yards.

Michael Pietropola threw for 170 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 4-6 with 0 interception.

Pietropola put up the best numbers in passing as Wellsboro topped the Rams. Pietropola's favorite target this week was Brandon Owlett, who caught 3 passes for 165 yards.

Matt Hildebrand's team's Pietropola and Owlett led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Pietropola has thrown for 1,080 yards this season, while Owlett, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 17 catches for 539 yards. Luke Jennings from Wyalusing Valley leads the league in rushing with 688 yards.

The Hornets are currently in first, while the Wildcats are in fifth.

North Penn moved up to 419 from 455 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Northern Tier 1. The Panthers climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Hughesville 32-6.
