Baseball Recap: Soldotna's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Soldotna extended their winning streak to seven on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 10-9-2 in the process. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Redington Huskies a 15-0 shutout. With that victory, the Stars brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Jack Harper tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Brett Hostetler and Matthew Schilling did most of the damage at the plate: Hostetler went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Schilling went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Soldotna is 5-1 when Schilling posts two or more runs, but 5-8-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Gagnon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run.

Soldotna always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

As for Redington, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

On Redington's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was JuJu Atencio, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double marked the first that Atencio has hit this season.
