Basketball Recap: Tuscaloosa Home Educators Falls Despite Big Games from Layken Horton and Lanie Westerberg

After flying high against Wiregrass last Tuesday, Tuscaloosa Home Educators came back down to earth. The Tuscaloosa Home Educators Warriors fell 46-38 to the East Central HomeSchool Patriots on Thursday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 64-43 back in December of 2024.

Tuscaloosa Home Educators' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Lanie Westerberg, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 15 points and three steals, and Layken Horton, who posted six points and ten rebounds. Horton has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 11 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Avery Arsenault, who put up six points and six rebounds.

It was another big night for Micah Coalson, who had 23 points in addition to eight boards and five assists for East Central HomeSchool. That makes it four consecutive games in which Coalson has scored at least a third of East Central HomeSchool's points. Emma Nelson was another key player, putting up 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Tuscaloosa Home Educators' record now sits at 11-7. As for East Central HomeSchool, their record now sits at 13-3.

Tuscaloosa Home Educators has already played their next matchup, a 41-25 loss against Ezekiel Academy on the 31st. As for East Central HomeSchool, they will face off against Evangel Christian at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th.
