Softball Recap: Clark Snags Fourth Victory in Last Five Games

Clark hadn't done well against Mojave recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Clark walked away with a 5-2 victory over Mojave. While the Chargers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Sophia DeMonbrun made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those 16 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

DeMonbrun wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Noel Gregorich, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Clark has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. Mojave dropped their record down to 2-5 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clark will head out to take on Durango at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Durango has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.33 runs per game on average), something Clark will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Mojave, they will venture away from home to challenge Las Vegas at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mojave's pitchers better be ready for this one: Las Vegas has averaged an impressive 20.1 runs per game this season.
