Basketball Game Preview: Scott Skyhawks vs. Buffalo Bison

The Scott Skyhawks will face off against the Buffalo Bison at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Scott proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by 20) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Riverside, sneaking past 54-52.

Scott's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Wyatt Edwards, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance gave Edwards a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Walls, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 15 points.

Meanwhile, Buffalo beat Point Pleasant 69-60 on Tuesday. Given the Bison's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while the Big Blacks are ranked 572nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Buffalo found their leader in sophomore Asher Flanery, who went 7-for-13 en route to 20 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Flanery's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Caleb Cales was another key player, going 5-for-11 on his way to 15 points.

Scott has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.2 points over those games. As for Buffalo, their win bumped their record up to 8-11.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Scott has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 22.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Buffalo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Scott strolled past Buffalo in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 73-56. Does Scott have another victory up their sleeve, or will Buffalo turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
