Basketball Game Preview: Cyprus Pirates vs. West Jordan Jaguars

Cyprus and West Jordan are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2015, but not for long. The Cyprus Pirates will be playing at home against the West Jordan Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cyprus is looking for their season's first victory.

Cyprus is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Syracuse on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Cyprus was dealt a 76-35 defeat at the hands of Syracuse. The Pirates were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-17.

Meanwhile, West Jordan was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 64-58 to Varsity Opponent.

Cyprus will need focus on slowing down Giselle Muffett, one of several West Jordan players who made an impact when they last played. She posted 20 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Muffett's afternoon made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marlee Reupena, who put up 20 points.

Even though they lost, West Jordan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in six consecutive games.

West Jordan's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Cyprus, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-12.

Cyprus came out on top in a nail-biter against West Jordan when the teams last played back in January of 2024, sneaking past 72-70. Does Cyprus have another victory up their sleeve, or will West Jordan turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
