Basketball Recap: Lovington Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Lovington had won four straight road games and Ashelynn Borunda did her part to make it five on Tuesday. The Lovington Wildcats took down the Goddard Rockets 78-61 thanks in part to Borunda, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 16 boards. She has become a key player for Lovington: the team is 10-5 when she posts at least ten rebounds, but 3-4 otherwise.

Aubrey Aranda was another key player, going 7 for 8 en route to 19 points. She has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.

Despite the loss, Goddard still got an impressive performance from Aubrie Bolanos, who went 7 of 10 from beyond the arc on her way to 25 points along with five boards and four steals. Those 25 points gave Bolanos a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jazmin De Leon, who posted 13 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Lovington's victory bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Goddard, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lovington will face off against Portales at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Portales will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Lovington surely won't give up without a fight. As for Goddard, they will take on Artesia at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
