Softball Recap: Payson Makes It Four in a Row at Home

Payson hadn't done well against Spanish Fork recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Payson walked away with an 8-5 victory over Spanish Fork. Eight seems to be a good number for the Lions as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Peyton Staheli spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Allie Callahan, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aydrie Christensen, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Callahan wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Payson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spanish Fork only managed six hits.

Payson's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Spanish Fork, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Payson didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 9-7 loss against Timpanogos on the 20th. As for Spanish Fork, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Maple Mountain on the 20th.
