5A-1 Region III District 11 Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances in games played on Thursday and Friday (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Ricky Sandolph Delivers Best Effort of Season

On Friday, La Porte got the W thanks in part to Ricky Sandolph playing the best football he has all season. Sandolph rushed for 215 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. The effort marked the most rushing yards he has had since back in October of 2023. He was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 64 yards.

The win was the fifth in a row for La Porte, bringing their record for this year to 5-3. Sandolph will try to repeat (or improve) on that dominant performance when he faces off against Angleton on Friday.

A Season-Best Effort from Sean Simon Leads La Porte over Crosby

La Porte was led to victory by Sean Simon, who turned in his biggest game of the season on Friday. Simon rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.5 yards per carry. He is becoming a predictor of La Porte's success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

This season, Simon has run in 10 touchdowns while averaging 118.4 rushing yards per game.

Angleton Wins Eighth-Straight Thanks to Travon Waddy

Travon Waddy's big game helped extend Angleton's winning streak to eight on Thursday. Waddy rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process.

Angleton's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Waddy's next matchup is against La Porte on Friday, where he'll look to repeat that solid effort.

Brynden Mack Turns in Season-Best Performance

Brynden Mack produced his most outstanding game to date while leading Angleton to the win on Thursday. Mack picked up a sack, made eight total tackles (4.0 for loss), and defended a pass.

Mack and Angleton will square off against La Porte at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mack better keep an eye on Wesley Yarbrough as he's been one of the Cougars' best running back. Will Yarbrough have another big offensive game, or will Mack keep him contained? We'll have our answer soon enough.
