Recap: Mercer County Golden Eagles vs. Hamilton/Warsaw Titans
The Mercer County Golden Eagles had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They walked away with a 44-32 victory over Hamilton/Warsaw. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Several Titans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gavin Grothaus, who threw for 327 yards and three touchdowns. Bryce Varner was in the mix too, providing Hamilton/Warsaw with two touchdowns.
Mercer County's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Hamilton/Warsaw, their loss was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8.
Mercer County will head out on the road to face off against Wilmington at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Wilmington presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mercer County in Illinois (Wilmington is ranked 94th, while Mercer County is ranked 298th). Hamilton/Warsaw does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
