Football Recap: Pinellas Park Comes Up Short

Pinellas Park was the 19-0 winner over Lakewood when they last played one another back in March of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Patriots fell 19-15 to the Spartans on Tuesday. The Patriots' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it seven in a row.

Although Pinellas Park took the loss, they still got scores from Laila El Bouab and Abigail Jenkins.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lakewood to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dajia Rogers, who threw for 310 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 76.7% of her passes, and also rushed for 80 yards on only five carries. Rogers is becoming a predictor of the Spartans' success: when she posts at least 250 passing yards the team is 2-1 (and 3-5 when she doesn't). Sharra Presley was Rogers' top target, picking up 150 receiving yards and one score, while also rushing for 59 yards on only eight carries.

Pinellas Park's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Lakewood, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Pinellas Park will square off against Largo at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots are facing the Packers at the right time seeing as the Packers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Lakewood, they will challenge Clearwater Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans will also cruise into their next contest with the timing on their side: the Marauders will have lost four straight heading into Monday's match.
