Recap: The Meadows School Mustangs vs. Pahrump Valley Trojans
The Meadows School Mustangs lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Monday was a bit more commanding. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 51-28 walloping at the hands of Pahrump Valley. While losing is never fun, The Meadows School can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Pahrump Valley is ranked ninth).
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tessa Lalanne, who scored 15 points. Kate Verdirame was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
The Meadows School struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Pahrump Valley racked up 18 assists.
Pahrump Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Moore, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Moore has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kailani Martinez, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
The Meadows School has not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Pahrump Valley, they pushed their record up to 24-2 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. The Meadows School will take on Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 13 consecutive losses for Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon and four for The Meadows School. As for Pahrump Valley, they will head out on the road to square off against Sports Leadership & Management at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Pahrump Valley's defense has only allowed 23.9 points per game this season, so Sports Leadership & Management's offense will have their work cut out for them.
