Basketball Recap: Century Panthers vs. Owatonna Huskies
After flying high against Albert Lea last Thursday, Century came back down to earth. The Century Panthers took a blow against the Owatonna Huskies on Tuesday, falling 78-49. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Huskies are ranked 44th).
Owatonna got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jersey Coleman out in front who went 6-for-8 from beyond the arc to rack up 21 points. Those 21 points gave Coleman a new career-high. Abigail Shornock was another key player, going 6-for-10 en route to 14 points along with seven boards and three steals.
Century has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 16 of their last 20 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-21 record this season. As for Owatonna, the win (which was their 16th in a row) raised their record to 18-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Century will face off against Mayo at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Owatonna, they will take on John Marshall at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. John Marshall is on a three-game streak of home wins, Owatonna a ten-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
