Basketball Game Preview: Poinciana Eagles vs. Sarasota Sailors

The Poinciana Eagles will take on the Sarasota Sailors at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Poinciana heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Thursday. The matchup between them and Osceola didn't end well, with Poinciana falling 76-61. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 198th, while the Kowboys are ranked 22nd).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jahmel Hill, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Javonte Simpson-Lee, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.

Meanwhile, Sarasota came tearing into Friday's game with 14 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 58-52 W against the Lightning.

Poinciana has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 16-10 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points over those games. As for Sarasota, their victory bumped their record up to 25-2.
