Softball Recap: Hilmar Comes Up Short

Hilmar came into this matchup off a tough 11-run loss on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Sonora Wildcats by a score of 8-6 on Thursday. The Yellowjackets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 5-4.

Sophie Stivers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Camryn Mattos was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Denys, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

This is the second loss in a row for Hilmar and nudges their season record down to 10-11. As for Sonora, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-18.

Coming up, Hilmar will face off against Summerville at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sonora does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
