Baseball Recap: Saxony Lutheran Finds Home Field Redemption Against Advance

There's no place like home for Saxony Lutheran, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Advance Hornets by a score of 10-5 on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Crusaders needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Korby Engert was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Saxony Lutheran's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 5-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Kai McDowell was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of James Hope, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Saxony Lutheran's win bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Advance, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Saxony Lutheran will host New Athens at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Crusaders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Advance, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Greenville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
