Football Game Preview: West Brook Bruins vs. Lufkin Panthers

For the first time this season, West Brook will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will venture away from home to challenge the Lufkin Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. West Brook will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

If West Brook beats Lufkin with 49 points on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Bruins beat Silsbee last Friday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 49-14. While the Bruins didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-6), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Tammeron Anderson was a one-man wrecking crew as he threw for 240 yards and four TDs while completing 73.3% of his passes, and also rushed for 68 yards. Those four passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Willie Clark, who rushed for 74 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Lufkin played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Barbers Hill and fell 35-7. The contest marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

West Brook will have to contain Kenny Waters as he made an impact in Lufkin's last game. He rushed for 97 yards and one score on only 13 carries. Waters' longest rush was for an incredible 74 yards.

Even if they lost, Lufkin's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Jameria Davis was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 11. Desmen Hood was another major factor on D, making 13 total tackles (3.0 for loss).

West Brook's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Lufkin, they moved to 3-2 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

West Brook suffered a grim 29-3 defeat to Lufkin in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Bruins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
