Baseball Recap: Snow Canyon Takes Down Ranked Crimson Cliffs

Snow Canyon faced Crimson Cliffs in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Warriors came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mustangs, sneaking past 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Warriors: when they faced off against the Mustangs last Tuesday, they had to take a 7-6 loss.

Andrew Lyon made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Lyon was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double.

In other pitching news, PJ Hancock looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

Lyon wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Talan Hansen, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Snow Canyon pushed their record up to 16-4 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Crimson Cliffs, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-6.

Coming up, Snow Canyon will be playing in front of their home fans against Cedar at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors are facing the Reds at the right time seeing as the Reds are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Crimson Cliffs, they will venture away from home to face off against Pine View at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
