Baseball Game Preview: Glencoe-Silver Lake Panthers vs. Watertown-Mayer Royals

Glencoe-Silver Lake hasn't had much luck against Watertown-Mayer recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Panthers will face off against the Royals at 4:00 p.m. Glencoe-Silver Lake is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.

It was a proper cat-fight when Glencoe-Silver Lake duked it out with Annandale on Tuesday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Cardinals. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Watertown-Mayer suffered their closest defeat since April 25th on Tuesday. They fell just short of Rockford by a score of 6-4. The Royals have struggled against the Rockets recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Jaren Vogt made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Watertown-Mayer's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 6-8 when he doesn't).

Glencoe-Silver Lake's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Watertown-Mayer, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.

Glencoe-Silver Lake couldn't quite get it done against Watertown-Mayer in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
