Basketball Recap: Escalante Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Escalante can finally bid farewell to their ten-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Friday. They took down the Navajo Pine Warriors 47-32. The Lobos have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Warriors, too.

Navajo Pine lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Riley Dawes, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 13 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. Dawes has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikayla Baker, who posted nine points and eight rebounds.

Escalante's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Navajo Pine, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Escalante will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Navajo Prep at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Navajo Pine will also get a bit of a break before their next game: they'll face off against Crownpoint at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
