Preview: Lamesa Tornadoes vs. Slaton Tigers
The Lamesa Tornadoes will head out on the road to face off against the Slaton Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lamesa will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
Last Friday, everything went Lamesa's way against Brownfield as Lamesa made off with a 41-19 win.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lamesa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Benito Barrioz, who rushed for 179 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Hector Zamora, who rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Slaton, who are still winless after their seventh contest. They were dealt a 28-0 loss at the hands of Denver City on Thursday.
Lamesa's victory bumped their season record to 2-6 while Slaton's loss dropped theirs to 0-7.
Everything went Lamesa's way against Slaton when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as Lamesa made off with a 56-32 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lamesa since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
