Recap: St. Stephens Indians vs. East Lincoln Mustangs
The St. Stephens Indians struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the East Lincoln Mustangs had 12 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. St. Stephens received a tough blow as they fell 72-53 to East Lincoln. St. Stephens has not had much luck with East Lincoln recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
St. Stephens' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aubrey Gibbs, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Blevins, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds.
St. Stephens struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
East Lincoln was led to victory by Kiara Anderson and Emma Montanari. Anderson scored 24 points along with seven rebounds, while Montanari scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Montanari is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lane Pethel, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
St. Stephens' loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for East Lincoln, the victory was the 15th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-1.
St. Stephens will head out on the road to challenge Statesville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully St. Stephens focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday. As for East Lincoln, they will be playing in front of their home fans against North Iredell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Lincoln has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 859 points over their last 12 matches.
