Baseball Game Preview: Gilroy Mustangs vs. Christopher Cougars

Gilroy is 2-8 against Christopher since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mustangs will host the Cougars at 1:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Gilroy is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Ann Sobrato.

Eric Hernandez put in work while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hernandez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Hernandez wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Hilton, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4. Hilton has become a key player for Gilroy: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-8 otherwise.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Christopher's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Pioneer by a score of 3-2.

Gilroy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Christopher, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-5.

Gilroy suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Christopher in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
