Softball Recap: Roosevelt Wins Going Away Against Powers Catholic

Roosevelt never let their opponents score on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Powers Catholic Chargers with a sharp 18-0 victory. Considering the Bears have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Grace Papler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Roosevelt let Shaylan Gourlay and Brooklyn Chlipala run wild. Gourlay went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Chlipala went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Chlipala continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Passuth, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Roosevelt kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win made it two in a row for Roosevelt and bumps their season record up to 11-6. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-6 Powers Catholic and 1-3 Deckerville. As for Powers Catholic, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Looking ahead, Roosevelt will head out on the road to square off against Yale at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Powers Catholic, they will be playing at home against Deckerville at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
