Softball Recap: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Comes Up Short

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North and Weslaco East squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 4-3. That's two games in a row now that the Raiders have lost by just one run.

Emma Escamilla was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Escamilla wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Vanessa Palacios, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

This is the second loss in a row for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North and nudges their season record down to 23-8. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Weslaco East, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Weslaco East, they will take on Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial on Saturday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their 25th straight victory, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight.
