Baseball Recap: Westview Victorious

Westview proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 17) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Jimtown Jimmies. This was payback for the Warriors, who suffered a 4-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

Elijah Zolman was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Westview is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 1-9 otherwise. Zolman was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Jaxon Christner was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brendan Miller, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Westview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Westview's record is now 4-9. As for Jimtown, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-5 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westview will head out to challenge Prairie Heights at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.5 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Jimtown, they will take on Glenn at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Jimmies surely won't give up without a fight.
