Basketball Recap: Concord Academy Wins High-Profile Contest Against Gaston Christian

Concord Academy faced Gaston Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Concord Academy took down Gaston Christian 68-52. Concord Academy has beaten Gaston Christian the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest Gaston Christian has come to flipping the script.

Concord Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lincoln Raper, who shot 57% from the field on his way to 22 points and six rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Raper now owns an excellent 40.4% three-point shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Cruz Miller, who posted 14 points and six boards.

Concord Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They racked up 11 more assists than Gaston Christian's also-impressive total of ten.

Gaston Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Newman, who had six points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Newman has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Brayden Milner was another key player, putting up seven points and ten boards.

Concord Academy's win bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Gaston Christian, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 13-1.
