Softball Game Preview: Lassen Grizzlies vs. West Valley Eagles

The Lassen Grizzlies will head out on the road to square off against the West Valley Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Lassen nor University Prep made it on the board until the eighth inning. The Grizzlies fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 3-2. The Grizzlies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, while West Valley put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Yreka. The Eagles blew past the Miners 17-0. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 11 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Aubree Wertz made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. Wertz was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, West Valley got a massive performance out of Taylor Lowe, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Mem McDougall, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI.

West Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matches.

Lassen's loss dropped their record down to 15-9. As for West Valley, their record now sits at 13-7.

Everything went Lassen's way against West Valley in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Lassen made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grizzlies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
