Baseball Recap: Mundelein Triumphs

Highland Park typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Mundelein proved too difficult a challenge. They had just enough and edged out the Giants 8-7. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-7 back in April.

Logan Young looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Caden Earing, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Jake Junia, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Mundelein has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. As for Highland Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-5-1.

Coincidentally, Mundelein and Highland Park will both be playing Vernon Hills the next time they take the field. The Giants will host the Cougars at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, while the Mustangs will host them at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
