Baseball Game Preview: Monroe County Falcons vs. Trousdale County Yellowjackets

The Monroe County Falcons will head out on the road to challenge the Trousdale County Yellowjackets at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Monroe County will be strutting in after a win while Trousdale County will be coming in after a loss.

On Wednesday, Monroe County earned a 10-6 victory over Metcalfe County. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won six in a row.

Brison Nuckols was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Nuckols was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Monroe County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Briar Bourque, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caden Geralds, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Monroe County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Trousdale County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Clay County.

Trousdale County's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Monroe County, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Monroe County was able to grind out a solid victory over Trousdale County in their previous meeting back in March, winning 5-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
