Softball Recap: Cox Starts off Right with Win over Landstown

Cox gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Landstown Eagles 4-3. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Ella Athey-Stapleton made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double.

In other batting news, Olivia Peterson was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Looking ahead, Cox will be playing at home against Bayside at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Landstown, they will face off against Tallwood at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Landstown is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak dating back to last season.
