Preview: Bunn Wildcats vs. Nash Central Bulldogs
The Bunn Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Nash Central Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bunn is no doubt hoping to put an end to a 19-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Tuesday, Bunn suffered a tough 43-19 loss at the hands of Southern Nash. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Bunn in their matchups with Southern Nash: they've now lost four in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Mariely Baez-Hernandez, who scored six points. Mercedes Fowler was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Meanwhile, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Nash Central made off with a 43-42 victory over Northern Nash. The victory was just what Nash Central needed coming off of a 57-26 defeat in their prior matchup.
Nash Central's win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from JaKayla Gay, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Gay has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Cameron Fate, who scored four points along with 17 rebounds and two steals.
Bunn has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-18 record this season. As for Nash Central, their victory bumped their record up to 12-7.
Bunn might still be hurting after the 40-18 loss they got from Nash Central when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Gay, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.
